Northern Territory Government started the first forestry plantations on Melville Island.

Northern Territory Government ended its involvement in forestry on the Tiwi Islands (3,900 ha of pine plantations) Tiwi decided to manage the plantations themselves.

Tiwi advised Northern Territory Government of their determination to establish commercial industries in forestry, fishing, tourism and mining.

Sylvatech Australia Pty Ltd (Sylvatech) received approval under the Environmental Assessment Act 1982 (NT) to plant 5,200 ha of A. mangium.

The Australian Plantation Group (Sylvatech) and Tiwi Land Council received approval under the EPBC Act for a further 26,000 ha of hardwood plantations on Melville Island.

The Australian Plantation Group was subsequently bought out by Great Southern Forestry NT Pty Ltd (Great Southern).

McGrath Nicol Receivers and Managers were appointed to Great Southern. McGrath Nicol Receivers and Managers issued a notice that they were no longer using, in possession of, or occupying the leases of the Tiwi Island Forestry Project and forfeited property rights in relation to the leases and consequently stopped paying rent.

Once more, Tiwi decided to take over the plantations and manage them to harvest.

Tiwi Plantations Corporation, separate from the Tiwi Land Council, was established to manage the plantations on behalf of the Tiwi and was registered on 2 November 2009.

TPC purchased plant, equipment and other plantation management assets from McGrath Nicol Receivers and Managers.

Facilities service agreement signed with Singaporean company Ezion Holdings Limited (Ezion).
